“The liturgy is the summit toward which the activity
of the Church is directed; at the same time it is the fount [source] from which
all the Church’s power flows.” # 10 Constitution
on the Sacred Liturgy
a visitor from
Texas approached our Director of Liturgy to express how beautiful the liturgy
had been, concluding with the comment that he was “really able to worship
during it.” Beautiful church
architecture, music, flowers and ritual, skilled and graceful execution of
liturgical ministries, and a welcoming sense of hospitality all came together
in an experience of the Church’s liturgy that did not draw attention to itself
and its individual components, but rather supported our guest in his participation
in the liturgy. Liturgy that keeps the
worshiping assembly focused on Christ, and facilitates that worship in order to
build up the Body of Christ, is essential to carrying out the mission of the
Church in the world. Our liturgical ministers
play an integral role in the beauty of our liturgies and how the Faithful are
“really able to worship” at Saint Thomas More.
